The D500X detector is our latest bat
detector/recorder. It is an ultrasound recording unit
intended for long-term, unattended recording of bat calls. In contrast to time
expansion bat detectors, the D500X records full-spectrum ultrasound in real
time with virtually no gaps between recordings. The recorder is equipped with
four slots for CF cards. The triggering system allows the device to start
recording as a sound is detected. The recording length can be selected in steps
from 0.3 up to 20 seconds.

The D1000X detector is our professional bat detector with heterodyne,
frequency division and time expansion systems. It also has a built-in 16-bit
recording system using a Compact Flash card as storage medium, making it
possible to save the recordings without having to use a separate tape recorder.
The recording length is only limited by the available space on the CF card. Using
a separate ultrasound loudspeaker, it is also possible to replay the ultrasonic
signals with the D1000X.
Version
4.03 of the real-time spectrogram sound analysis software BatSound is now available. Version 4.03 can be run on Windows XP, Vista and 7
and includes new functions to facilitate working with the large high-speed
files from the D500X and D1000X detectors.
The most
important new functions are:

Support for Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7.
·
New recording and playback routines. Separate “Recording Status” dialog
box showing the status and enabling pause/resume recording. Pause function also
added for playback.
·
Functions to facilitate using files generated with the D500X and D1000X
detectors:
· Support for larger files
· “Play Speed” function to allow playing files with high sampling rate at reduced speed (i.e. as a time expanded file)
· Display of “File Properties”, including file time/date and any GPS data that was stored in the file.
·
New file formats for improved compatibility with other sound editor
programs.
·
Import function to enable opening other file types than wav (e.g. mp3).
This requires a codec for the desired format (which most computers already
have).
·
“Open Next/Previous” function opens the next/previous file relative to
the current active file (in alphabetical order).
·
More than one file can be opened in the Open File dialog box.
·
Support for higher sampling frequency (recording up to 192 kHz, playback
up to 768 kHz) and bit depth (up to 32 bits). This requires that the sound card
supports the chosen sampling frequency/bit depth.
